The U11 United boys’ rep team dropped a 4-1 decision at home last Saturday afternoon to RFC Renegades, but the result was not indicative of United’s play.

United started strong and looked to be pretty evenly matched with the Renegades.

United took the early lead with a great cross from Callum Christiansen to midfielder Colby Elson, who lifted it over the goalie.

Both teams battled end to end with great defensive plays from Alex Hart, Owen Watson, Julian Woodin, Sierra Ryden and Lucca Chalmers and some great passing in the midfield from Kai Maniwa Brodie, Tayio Blackwell, Diego Bajger and Brett Bjornson.

The Renegades scored the equalizer just before half time.

United started the second half the stronger team and were unlucky not to take the lead again after Owen’s direct free kick rattled the cross bar.

In the United net, goalie Cameron Wentzell was amazing and even drew blood for the team to keep the ball out the net. Unfortunately he was unable to keep out three very quick Renegade goals.

United’s next match is this Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at Piccadilly Park in Sechelt.
