U16 Scorpions Boys

Soccer

The U16 Scorpions continued their winning ways against the Vancouver Predators at Point Grey on Saturday. With only one spare and usual powerhouse Jordan Kammerle playing on a knee injury, the boys knew they had to work hard.

Keeper Keeran Peel recorded his first shutout of the year with solid saves on the few shots that managed to get by defenders Philip Fogarty, Liam Rankin and Jake Simkins.

Everett August played beautifully in the midfield and, midway through the first half, Duncan Armstrong got off a shot that hit the back of the net. Finn Rogers played a fast game on the wing, despite a lot of back-and-forth action.

The game saw a lot of airtime for the ball but the height and skills of Evan Griffin and Xavier Benjamin allowed the Scorpions to control the play nicely. Bryce Pierre, who was injured during the game, played well on the wing and stoically returned to the game when a tackle led to a nosebleed for Armstrong.

Near the end of the game Ben Luporini made a beautiful drop shot that sailed just under the crossbar and above the keeper’s fingertips to score the goal that secured a 2 - 0 game for the Scorpions. They play again on Saturday against Squamish United-99 at 11:30 in Kinnikinnick Park.
