Two Coast teams off to provincials

Lacrosse

Both the peewee and bantam Sunshine Coast Rapids lacrosse teams are off to their respective provincial championships in the coming weeks.

The bantams begin play this Friday, July 11, in Victoria, while the peewees begin play on July 17 in Richmond.

Midgets wrap season

The midget team ended its season last weekend after being edged out in play-downs by the Vancouver Burrards.

Dedicated coaches Bethia Macey and Patrick Query are to be congratulated for taking the team this far, developing the players from a C tier to the higher B tier, where they finished an admirable fourth in their division.

The development of individual players was evident as Brendann Query, Scout Jagdeo and Matt Risebrough earned their first goals late in the season, and Kalen Alain and Cam Wray earned their first assists.

Top scorers Jacob Huson, Justin Macey and Gabriel Chamberlain could be counted on to hit the back of the net most games. Caymen Froude and Ryan Fraser began closing the scoring gap as the season progressed. Liam Rankin, Max McDicken, Wesley Konopasek, Cody Angus and lacrosse newcomer Keeran Peel were formidable opponents on the floor. Goalie Goran Trokicic honed his skills between the posts.

Honourable mention goes to Carson Wayment who stepped up and into the goalie position after the regular season was over where he exhibited an admirable performance.
