Ted Bowe memorial race a barrel of fun

Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club
Ted Bowe barrel race
The annual Ted Bowe barrel race was a huge success with riders from the Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club competing for medals and prizes.

A big thank you to all the spectators, sponsors, volunteers and riders in the Ted Bowe annual barrel race and chili cook off, which was held last Saturday, Aug. 23.

Congratulations to the winners.

The Coastal Cowgirls gave a flashy and gritty musical ride performance. Sherry Nelson of Fresh Air Photography captured the “turn and burn” moments as riders rounded their barrels.

While numbers were down over other years, it was a day for all ages, boys and girls, from 10 to 60. As a 4D event, there were open, peewee, junior and senior categories, with buckles and prizes awarded in each as well as random draws for spectator prizes.

Go big or go home was the Calcutta theme. Spectators and participants bet on winning horses in each category, with the prize money being awarded to winning bidders by a magic formula. Some bidders went home with less change in their pockets, while others happily doubled their money!

The event is sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club (SCEC) and is held at the outdoor arena (under the power lines on B&K Road). The SCEC supports Western and English riding disciplines, mentors riders of all ages and fosters a healthy competitive experience. New members are always welcome.
