Sneddon looks for repeat

BC Bike Race

Sechelt’s Kris Sneddon will be looking to repeat his run of success next week in this year’s BC Bike Race.

Fresh off his third-place finish earlier this month at the gruelling Test of Metal in Squamish, Sneddon looks to be at the top of his game heading into the week-long event.

Three riders with Powell River connections will also be putting pedals to the metal during the event. Brother and sister Russell and Saravie Brewer, plus Lyell Woloschuk, are preparing for the tough event, which will test their riding skills through beautiful coastal forests and landscapes.

The race starts this Sunday, June 29, in North Vancouver with day two in Cumberland. The third day of competition will be in Powell River, day four features a ride from Earls Cove to Sechelt on July 2, and the following day will be from Sechelt to Langdale. The sixth part of the race will be in Squamish, and the week-long event will conclude in Whistler on July 5.

Day four from Earls Cove to Sechelt will see riders travel along some of the toughest single-track in the event. The elite riders should be arriving at the finish line at the Sechelt Learning Centre (former Sechelt Elementary School) between 2 and 2:30 p.m.

The next morning, day five sees the riders up early for an 8 a.m. start and a 40-km day where the hoots and hollers will come from the last seven kilometres — all downhill through swooping, loamy single track.
