The peewee Rapids finished fourth in B.C. after a great effort at the provincial C championship in Kamloops last weekend.

In the bronze medal contest, the Rapids fell 3-1 to Vanderhoof with Jake Podgorenko named team MVP.

In their first game of the championship, the Rapids started strong, beating Vanderhoof 4-3.

Braedon Service, Ben Bryant, Jade Pratt and Matt Drope scored the goals with assists by Chris Risebrough. Braedon was named game MVP.

In game two, the Rapids beat Saanich 10-3 with Noah Sheldon named game MVP.

Game three was another victory by the Rapids, this time 8-1 over Kamloops. Matt was named game MVP.

The medal round saw the Rapids lose a close 3-2 contest to North Okanagan, who went on to lose the gold medal game to Vancouver - Killarney.

Noah was outstanding in net, making 50-plus saves and was named game MVP.

Chris was also presented with a warrior fair play award, which was awarded to one player from each of the participating teams, while Braedon won a tournament MVP award.

The team wishes to thank coaches Jason Pratt and Brian Horbach for all their dedication, hard work and skills that were passed on to the team throughout the season.

There were many first year players on the team, but the team came together fast, worked hard and that work paid off, said Pratt. I want to thank all the parents and family members who brought their kids to every practice and to the provincials.

The midget Rapids came within one goal of securing a berth in the provincials last Sunday during a fast-paced, intense game against Mission before an appreciative audience at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.

The best-of-three series began Saturday in Mission with a double-header that had the two teams split the wins. The Rapids won the first game 6-3, with Gabriel Chamberlain scoring a hat trick, and Raven Wall, Connar Peers and Jacob Huson each scoring one.

In game two, Raven scored two more goals, Connar and Jacob each added a second to their day's tally, and Justin Macey, Matt Risebrough, and Graydon Inksater all scored once on the 9-7 loss.

Matt, Cody Broski, Wesley Kono-pasek, Max McDicken and Cam Wray assisted in the scoring. Scout Jagdeo, Ryan Fraser and Travis Jacobsen were impressive in their tenacity, both offensively and defensively.

On Sunday the Rapids had difficulty scoring on Mission's talented goalie, but battled back from behind to lose in a tightly contested 7-6 game that impressed everyone in the arena.

The second hat trick of the weekend was earned by Justin Macey, and the other goals were scored by Jacob, Connar and Gabriel. Rookie goalie Goran Trokicic had a fine showing throughout the round, exceeding expectations against the dominant Mission team.

Kudos were awarded by the referees of both games and the Mission coach to Bethia Macey and her team for their respectful approach to the game and their significant growth during the season.
