Men’s league playoffs this weekend

Fastball

Hackett Park in Sechelt is the place to be this weekend as a champion will be crowned in the Sunshine Coast Men’s Fastball League.

Last year’s champs, the Brewers, will be the top seed and are looking for a repeat, but Lon’s Gun Show, the Jays, Big Deals, Custom Carpet and Gilligans will be trying to knock them off.

Final seeding for the tournament was not completed by press deadline, as two games were scheduled for Wednesday night.

But regardless, action begins with games Saturday at 9 and 10:45 a.m., 12:30, 2:15, 4 and 5:45 p.m. Sunday games are at 10 and 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m., the Beer Cup final at 3:15 and the championship final at 5 p.m.

In action last week, Big Deals picked up an 11-2 win over the Jays on Wednesday, July 30.

Christina Lewis struck out six for Big Deals, while Eli Dill smacked a home run.

In the other Wednesday night game, Gun Show beat Custom 7-1.

Nate Deboer and Taylor Hancher both turned double plays to hold back the Custom Carpet offence.

In a make-up game from earlier in the season, Brewers beat up on Custom 12-2 on Friday night, Aug. 1.

Ty Graham hit a grand slam for the Brewers and also helped out defensively by making a great catch in right field. Bill Stockwell pitched a solid game for the Brewers. With this win, the Brewers secured the number one seed going into the league playoffs for a second year in a row.
