There was only one game in the men's league this week as first-place Sitastook on CPU at Cliff Gilker. Sitas' striker Neville Judd opened the scoring with a Beckhamesque placement into the top corner from 30 yards out. With the confidence of Babe Ruth pointing to the bleachers before smacking home a grand slam, Judd looked up to see the CPU keeper off his line before sailing it into the net. Awestruck CPU defender Brad Jennings gushed how Judd "made sweet soccer music, strumming that twine."
A goal-mouth collision between nice-guy behemoths Bob Hoy and Kurt Vernon shuddered the field, sending people running under doorways and tables throughout the greater Roberts Creek area. CPU responded with goals from Ken Campbell and Eric Pinfold, then added two more as Sitas players left the match with injuries, to take the match 4-1.
In the women's league, Fusion shook off their funk with some old school mentoring from Shelley Patrick and Melissa Di Pietro, who both scored. Sitas, however, responded with some mentoring of their own with a quartet of goals from mom and daughter duo Barbi and Shelbi McDonell, Leisha Hansen and forward 'Cagey' Kendra Graham. Blazers kept up their winning ways in a 4-3 win over Mayhem, with a pair from Ashley Taylor, a boomer from Jyl Stinson and one more from 'Jackie-O' Ostrovsky. For Mayhem, Jasmine Nebocat hit the top sidemesh from 20 yards out. Sunday was another win with Blazers 2 Source 1 on a conversion of a Dani Thompson cross by Christine Campbell and a penalty converted by Astrid Bradbury. Ya Yas also beat Mayhem 2-0.
