Great mix-up in Gibsons

Curlers from as far away as Manitoba enjoyed good curling and warm hospitality at the annual 16-team mixed bonspiel last weekend at the Gibsons Curling Club.

Curlers from as far away as Manitoba enjoyed good curling and warm hospitality at the annual 16-team mixed bonspiel last weekend at the Gibsons Curling Club.

The A event final was won by skip Wade Kovacs from Manitoba, who came to Gibsons to curl with his brother Brian. Brian injured his knee and was unable to compete, but Wade held up the family honour with a 7-6 victory over the Tony Todosychuk team. Wade's team included Michelle Twanow and Gary Sigler from Gibsons and Lois Russell from Nanaimo. The Todosychuk team included Michele Borley, Ed Hill and Joy Hill, all from Gibsons.

The Mike Staiger team from Gibsons was third, while the Mike Lesik team from Gibsons was fourth.

The B event final was won by Larry Penonzek and his Gibsons team of Diane Penonzek, Ron Baba and Kathy Tait, who beat the Heffelfinger team from Golden Ears.

The Dave Gant team from Gibsons was third, while the Dwayne Clegg team from Gibsons was fourth.

The C event final was won by the Rempel team from the Royal City Curling Club, who defeated the Jamie Dean team from Hollyburn.

The third and fourth place finishers were the Tim Malcom team and Darren Kopeck teams from Gibsons.
