Thirteen-year-old Mac-kenzie Inksater of Roberts Creek travelled to Las Vegas at the beginning of October to compete in the American Quarter Horse Association's Novice Championships.
With more than 100 competitors from across Western Canada and the United States entering some events, Mackenzie faced fierce competition.
Mackenzie and her horse Bow Tie N Dreams finished fourth in novice youth performance halter geldings and placed in the top 22 riders in hunter under saddle. Mackenzie and 'Bo' competed in seven events at the championships in both English and Western events.
Bo and Mackenzie have been a partnership for just two years, Bo being only five years old. They have become a formidable duo on the quarter horse circuit. They have had many successes together in their short partnership. This year alone their accomplishments include high point novice youth at Drayton Valley and region one in Monroe, high point youth 13 and under at the Canadian Nationals as well as reserve junior horse.
In September at the South Central Quarter Horse Association show in Armstrong, they brought home prizes for high point 13 and under, junior horse and novice youth. In 2012, their many wins earned Mackenzie the Justin Rookie of the Year Award for B.C. competitors 13 and under.
The handsome Bo was bred by Mackenzie's trainer Tami Hutton of Hutton Performance Horses, in Chilliwack.
Bo began his show career with Hutton's father Gerry. When Mackenzie began the search for her first show horse and came across the handsome Bo, it was love at first sight. Gerry did not need much convincing to see that these two had a connection and soon Bo was on his way home to Roberts Creek.
Bo and Mackenzie spend the summers training and showing with the Huttons all over B.C., Alberta and the U.S.
Mackenzie has hopes that they will one day compete in the AQHA Youth World Show held in Oklahoma.
