Almost unbeatable

U12 Girls Storm

The U12 girls team Storm were undefeated in league play as of Sept. 28 with a win over Galaxy from North Vancouver.

The girls took an early lead in the first half with two goals from Mya Yakasovich and only let up one goal in the second half with solid goaltending and a strong defensive line holding off the strong North Vancouver team.

Storm had been playing stellar soccer since the start of the season, practising hard twice a week.  It is clear their team effort and camaraderie both on and off the field was paying off for them.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, the U12 girls team Storm travelled to Vancouver and were unable to keep up their winning streak.  Storm played a tight game but an early goal from the Vancouver Vipers a few minutes in to the start of the first half was enough to secure them a win.  Storm saw the goal as a challenge and rose to the occasion with a strong defensive line led by Piper Goerzen, Ella Campbell and Olivia Tulk.

The opposition had some strong shooting but they were shut down by strong goaltending from Pippa Boothroyd and Mary Wood.  Mya Yakasovich played a strong game in centre midfield and Teagan Sweet, Leela Fernandez and Paige Clucas played the wings with lots of speed and great passing.

Faye Duffy, Koenn Sauer and Clara Pashkewych made up the forward line and did not give up on the ball, although there was some great shooting they were unable to put the ball past Vancouver’s keeper.

Despite the fact that Storm had the ball in their possession most of the second half, the final score was 1 to 0 for the Vipers.
