Tight defence, controlled passing propel Storm to win

The torrential rain didn’t slow down the U13 Girls’ Storm with their 6-0 win in Vancouver against the KLM Wildcats.

Sedona Allen, Cassie Gibb, Joah Pinfold, Hilary August and Alice Clements held such a tight defensive line that the ball hardly got past them, leaving goalie Rylee Vourtsis ready and waiting, but hardly getting to even touch the ball the first half.

Sophia Bergeau got the first goal of the game and her first goal of the season.

In the second half, Hilary took a turn in net, but again had next to no action because of the strong defensive skills on the team.

Kaliyana Denham-Rohlicek, Tessa Hage and Jeanette Muirhead did an excellent job of moving the ball forward. Controlled passing by the whole team allowed them to score five more goals in the second half.

Goals were scored by Sarah Wilson, Asha Lui-Heneke, Eilis Pedretti-Ritchlin and two by Mika Schutz.

Calm, positive advice from coaches Eric Pinfold and Owen Schutz from the sidelines had the girls showing us how to work as a team.

Keep it up, Storm!
