The Roberts Creek Elementary School girls basketball team took home the heavy hardware after finishing first in the elementary tournament March 13.

The Roberts Creek Elementary girls grades 6-7 basketball team won the School District No. 46 elementary girls basketball tournament Tuesday, March 13 at Chatelech Secondary.

Gibsons had beat a strong West Sechelt team and were pumped and confident heading into the final game against Roberts Creek. The RC girls knew they had a fast break-out style, creative passing game and they proved it as they came out in the first quarter with all cylinders firing. And they kept it up throughout the subsequent three quarters with fast breaks and long passes to players who had broken free to get down low under the net. In addition, the team’s rebounding was exceptional at both ends of the court. The game ended with a 16-8 win over Gibsons.

The “Ellen Thomas” donated trophy is now on display at the school to remember the exceptional teamwork that brought them victory in the final game.

In the B flight, the West Sechelt girls B team’s improvement over the day was huge, as they defeated Halfmoon Bay in the consolation final 16-8, while it was Kinnikinnick squeaking out a 13-11 win over Cedar Grove in the B final.

Coaches and players extend thanks to high school volunteer referees on the day – Tiffany Baldwin, Jillian Denham, Wyatt Baldwin, Brenden Moscrip and Maddy Welsh – as well as the scorers – Maddy, James, Harley, Nigel, Bryan and Ben – for a job well done.
