The Sunshine Coast Dart League was host to over 70 dart players for the fifth annual dart tournament. This year’s tournament was in recognition of Mark Dove, who passed suddenly earlier this year. Mark was well know to the dart community as an avid player in many dart leagues on and off Coast. He was always supporting both experienced and new players. Our Coast Dart League decided this particular tournament was an appropriate recognition of Mark for this year and years to come.

The dart players took over the Gibsons Legion Hall from Friday night, Aug. 18 to Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20. Players came from all over the province including Powell River, Chilliwack, Victoria and Duncan. The turnout for all the events was more than successful, with 38 boards being used for the events.

Sunshine Coast Welding contributed $1,000 and both the Gibsons Legion and the Coast Dart League contributed $500 each towards the prize money for 100 per cent payout. The event paid out over $6,900 to the players finishing in the top eight in all events. The prize money is the second highest payout in B.C. with the Greater Vancouver Open paying top prize money.

The next tournament will be our Dart League Start Up Tournament open to anyone on the Coast. It will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9 with registration closing at 10:30 a.m. Players interested in playing Monday night darts can join a team or form a team (six to ten players). The final date for teams to sign up is Sept. 11. See Coastdarts.ca and Facebook at Coastdarts.
