Elphi athletes finish season strong

The high school track and field season came to a close June 5 and 6 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, and athletes from Elphinstone Secondary School didn't disappoint. Kendra Pomfret finished third in the 800 metres in a time of 2:18.05.

Kendra Pomfret finished third in the 800 metres in a time of 2:18.05. Michaela Kane finished fifth in the women's 400 metres in a time of 59.14. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams both finished in fourth place. The 4x100 team's finishing time was 51.29; the 4x400 team's finishing time was 4:09.95.

Tiegan Daniels was 17th in the 200 metre run preliminaries in a time of 28.18, Julie Beadle was 21st in the 1,500 metre run preliminaries in a time of 5:50.25, and Claire Buchanan was 29th in the women's javelin throw with a toss of 19.10 metres.

Oliver Telfer was the highest finisher among the male athletes from Elphi as he finished 16th in the 2,000 metre steeplechase in a time of 6:42.09. He also competed in the 800 metre, finishing 20th in the preliminaries, and was 16th in the 3,000 metre run in a time of 9:38.68.

The men's 4x400 metre relay team was 17th in the preliminaries, and the 4x100 team was 23rd in the preliminaries. Neither team qualified for the finals.

Jonathon Garmulewicz finished 17th in the men's triple jump, jumping 12.21 metres. He was also in the 200 metre run where he finished 28th in the preliminaries, but failed to qualify for the finals.

Devon Dunn finished 21st in the 400 metre preliminaries in a time of 54.58, and Aaron Eger was 21st in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 29.28 metres.

Held in conjunction with the provincial championships was the Grade 8 to 9 All-Comers Meet, in which Elphi's Lucy Wilson finished 19th in the girls 80 metre hurdles with a score of 14.89.
