Ryan Dempster will be inducted into the 2018 BC Sports Hall of Fame.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame has named Gibsons’ Ryan Dempster to its 2018 class.

Dempster pitched 16 years in the Major Leagues, winning a World Series with Boston in 2013 and posting a career record of 132-133 with 87 saves and more than 2,000 of strikeouts.

He was among five athletes named to the Hall Dec. 12. The others are: hockey player Cliff Ronning, football player Glen Jackson, para-alpine skier Josh Duek and skier Marielle Thompson.

In an interview with TSN radio in Vancouver, Dempster said he was honoured and humbled by the recognition.

“To look back at 16 years, going to All-Star games, winning a World Series and then to cap it off with this, is pretty incredible,” he told the radio audience.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame also named three people in the Builder/Coach category, and one in Media.

The 1991 men’s national rugby team is also part of the class of 2018, as well as the 1900-18 Rossland women’s ice hockey team.

Alex Nelson will receive the W.A.C Bennett Award for his work in Indigenous sport.

The induction ceremony is May 31, 2018 in Vancouver.
