Coming off a season that saw her post a career high 118 kills, Elphinstone grad Michelle Jakszuk hit another career mark for the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s volleyball squad Jan. 5.

In their first match after the holiday break, Jakszuk, who’s now in her fifth year with UBCO, had 17 kills against the visiting University of Alberta Pandas, including the final two points of the match on back-to-back kills.

It was a career high for her in a single match. Her previous single-match best was 15 kills against Trinity Western in 2017.

Jakszuk, an outside hitter, also finished with a career high 20 digs in a single match as UBCO won 3 sets to 1.

Jakszuk didn’t slow her pace when the two teams met again on Jan. 6, posting a team-leading 16 kills in another 3 sets to 1 victory over U of A.

The Heat, at 10-4, are sitting in fourth place in the Canada West Conference and are comfortably in a playoff spot. They’ve also just been ranked fourth nationally in the latest U Sports coaches poll.

The team is coming off a bye week Jan. 19 for two matches against the eighth-place Brandon Bobcats.
