The Sechelt Indian Band (SIB) will hold a nomination meeting this Monday, Jan. 20 for candidates in next month's election for chief and council.

The election is set for Feb. 22, with an advance poll on Feb. 16.

The nomination meeting will be held at the Band Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. and is open only to Band members.

Candidates, said CAO Barbara Joe, "have to be nominated by a Sechelt Band member and seconded by another Sechelt Band member -and they have to accept."

The election for chief and four council positions is held every three years, although the past term saw three byelections after sitting councillors resigned for health or personal reasons.

Joe said she was not aware if the incumbent chief and council intend to run again.

"I have no clue and any time I've ever guessed, I've been wrong," she laughed.
