Scouts fundraising for England

The Gibsons Venturers completed their second bottle drive recently in their efforts to raise some of the funds needed for them to attend a Jamboree in England this summer.

"I'm getting really excited about the trip," said Venturer Company president Cheyenne Williamson.

"Five youth and two leaders will be travelling to NORJAM 2014 in Norfolk, England. There they will be camping and cooking with a group of English Explorer Scouts. They will be attending activities with them and making friends with other Scouts from around Britain and Europe," added Venturer advisor Mike Forrest. "After the Jamboree, we will be camping at the South London Scout Centre for a week while exploring London. This experience will give the Venturers confidence to travel the world and the contacts to help them do it. We hope we will see some of their new acquaintances come visit us here in the future. They will be putting Gibsons on the map."

Their next fundraiser is a silent auction on Saturday, March 29, at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons.

"The community businesses have been fantastic in their support of this event," Forrest said. "We have auction items big and small. There is something for everyone to bid on, and we are still accepting donations of auction items."

Expect to see more of the Venturers as they continue to "do good turns" out in the community and raise funds to help with their trip. If you have any questions or wish to offer your support, call 604-886-4644.
