Scorpions open Coast Cup at home

Watch the game live at Kinnikinnick at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and cheer them on. Scorpions have claimed the North Shore Championship for the third time in the past four years.

Youth soccer registration

On April 1, registration for the next 2014/15 soccer season will open online at http://scysa.ca.

Sign up early to make sure you're playing in the fall.

Active Start and spring league are still accepting registrations. Sign up by March 31 for Active Start and spring league by April 15.

Strong showing at junior opener

Junior golfers from the Sunshine Coast put in a strong showing at the opening event of the 2014 Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour.

A full field of 100 highly touted golfers from far and wide teed off March 16 and 17. Tough weather on day one resulted in the 54-hole tournament being cut to 36 holes, with round one played at Meadow Gardens Golf Club in Pitt Meadows on March 16 and the final round on March 17 at the prestigious Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam.

In the girls division, Avery Struck of Halfmoon Bay finished ninth with a two-round score of 161.

In juvenile boys, Keenan Flemming of Sechelt was fifth with a 153 score, while Myles Killackey of Gibsons was 20th with a 170 score. Myles also won a Golf Town comeback award for his division.

In junior boys, Jacob Bland of Sechelt was 25th with a score of 179.

Lacrosse clinics for coaches and officials

The Sunshine Coast Lacrosse Association has three upcoming clinics for coaches and officials in preparation for the new season.

On Sunday, April 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a coaching development clinic with Pal Dal Monte at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.

On April 12, a coaching clinic for level one is in Gibsons from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, April 13, an officials level one clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., also in Gibsons.

The officials' clinic is a $30 entry, $45 for level one, which is reimbursed after you have done three games.
