After sitting for 20 minutes, centring awareness in the breath and heart, the silence will be followed by a devotional danceoffered by disciples training in the bharata natyam classical dance form originating in the temples of South India. The recital will end with time to enjoy masala chai and a chat. Bring an open heart and your meditation cushion, and let the qi and chai flow. Tickets are $12, available at Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons.?

Culture Days

The third annual Canada-wideCulture Days hosts lots of activities for free this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30, including a writing workshop with Coast Reporter's Cathie Roy at the Sechelt Library on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Register at the library.

Then on Sunday at the Seaside Centre from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., you can sign up for a free workshop in volunteer management for today's non-profits, a collaborative community recording and hands-on music demo with Steve Wright and Bruce Devereux, the launch of the third annual Sunshine Coast Art Crawl map, traditional singing, dancing and drumming by the shíshálh Nation xwamtsut group and short films presented by the Sunshine Coast Organizing Against Racism and Hate Initiative.

Beginners drawing

Local artist Pat Collier is again offering a drawing course for those who believe they can't draw, but wish they could. This eight-week series has been specifically designed to help the beginner explore his or her own inner artist.

Choose from either a day class from 1 to 3 p.m. or evenings 7 to 9 p.m. A drop-in art afternoon for seasoned artists is also being offered. Classes begin the first week of October in Lower Gibsons. Space is limited. To register, call 604-886-0124.

PK3

At 4 p.m. on Sunday, PK3 returns to the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre for an afternoon of jazz standards and original music.

The PK3 Jazz Trio has been performing in the Vancouver area and abroad for the past 15 years.

Drummer Kristian Braathen, born and raised in Sechelt, originally left to pursue his studies of music at Capilano University in 1995. He quickly fell in love with jazz, and hasn't turned back since.

PK3 came together after Braathen and pianist Paul Miyai met at Capilano University. They have been regular performers at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Gibsons Jazz Festival and Pender Harbour Jazz Festival.

Cinematheque

The Queen of Versailles is the latest in the Coast Cinematheque series at Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt. With the epic dimensions of a Shakespearean tragedy, The Queen of Versailles follows billionaires Jackie and David's rags-to-riches story to uncover the innate virtues and flaws of the American dream.

The film plays Tuesday (Oct. 2) 2 p.m. and Wed./Thurs. (Oct. 3/4) 7:30 p.m.

Nostalgia Night

A Night of Nostalgia is back at The Club (Christ the King Church) in Lower Gibsons on Friday, Oct 5. George Grafton, Jim Taylor and the Nostalgettes provide a wonderful evening of music, dancing and entertainmentwith memories of yesteryear. The past four shows have sold out and all tickets must be purchased ahead of time at Zocalo, in Lower Gibsons. Tickets are $25. Doors at open at 7 show starts at 7:30 p.m.
