Poetry prize for local teacher

Poet and teacher Susan Telfer of Gibsons has won the 2013 Vancouver Writers' Fest Poetry Prize. In an international contest judged by a panel of peers, Telfer won for a poem called "Thirteen Ways of Looking at Garter Snakes".

In an international contest judged by a panel of peers, Telfer won for a poem called "Thirteen Ways of Looking at Garter Snakes". The first prize has a monetary value of $500 and first-prize winners in the various categories will be published in Subterrain magazine.

Book Busted

On Wednesday, Jan. 22, the Gibsons and District Public Library presents a reading and signing of Busted, a book by local author Ed Hill, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It's free, but register with the library by calling 604-886-2130.

Driftwood AGM

The theatre group, the Driftwood Players, holds its annual general meeting on Thursday,Jan. 23 at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons, at 7 p.m.

Driftwood meetings usually feature performances and are not dull. All the community is welcome to attend.

GPAG

Calling all artists: the Gibsons Public Art Gallery (GPAG) is now accepting artists' submissions for exhibitions during the 2015 season. Guidelines and submission forms are available at www.gibsonspublicartgallery.ca and will be accepted from now until April 30.

GPAG also announces another deadline that will give children and their parents some time to prepare. The children's Shout Out Art Show will be accepting submissions until March 1. See the GPAG website for guidelines.

Artists of BC

Artists of BC - Volume 4 is now on the shelves at retail outlets.

The full colour art book showcases the artists of B.C. and was edited by local artist Jane Richardson. This latest volume features more Sunshine Coast artists than ever before, including Greta Guzek, Carol LaFave, Nadina Tandy and Cindy Riach, among others.
