The Sept. 5 Province article blaming teachers for school not starting on time did not provide the on-the-ground perspective that Coast Reporter is rightly proud of providing.

The piece outlined the provincial picture, quoted our superintendent and provided information about education support. It’s hard to understand why there was no mention of the views of local teachers and the impact this job action is having on their lives and the lives of their families. Those you see walking the picket lines are our neighbours, our customers, our community volunteers, our sons and daughters, our friends. Surely the actual impact of this strike and lock-out on our community is at least as newsworthy as the views of politicians, union leaders and bureaucrats.
