The hazards of winter

All that is left now are the echoes of her little footfalls, the fleeting traces of her essence, which infused me with her for the last five years day and night.

She was my little dog, but she was so much more than that: she was my loyal and steady companion. Neither of us moved in time without the other being there to play their part. And now Lybby is gone, and I am left with a broken heart.

It all could have been different.

Lybby and I want to pass on this warning. We walked every day and we took the same route. Two small creeks Lybby would wade across in the summer. She knew if the water was too high and she would cross on the six-inch plank. That was until Dec. 9 after the heavy rainstorm. She was just doing what she always did. She was a few feet ahead of me and before I could get my hands on her, the water washed her from the plank, she was swept away, and she drowned.

Please don’t let this happen to your cherished friends. High water is a formidable foe and it behaves in illusive ways. Protect yourselves and your four-legged friends and avoid the creeks and rivers especially after a heavy rain.
