I perceive the inability to solve the teachers impasse as the ultimate failure of your government. The fact that I have a daughter who is a teacher supports this perception. This close relationship has given me the opportunity to witness how much extra-curricular time teachers spend on their job and the money they often spend on school supplies they need but which the school does not provide.

I also pay my share in the form of school tax on my property, though I have not had any school-going children for a long time. I think this is only fair, as the provision of proper schooling for our children is everybody’s obligation, as well as the government’s, which has, to be sure, a legal obligation to provide a properly functioning  school system.

Ms. Clark, it is in your government’s power to end this impasse. If this means giving in to some of the teachers’ demands resulting in a tax increase, I will fully support it.

Not only is the future of our children at stake, but also the long-term economic future of the province.
