Much has been said against BC Ferries and its operation.

We chose to live here “away from the madding crowd” and we have to accept annoyances in travel from time to time — which, in many cases, are unavoidable.

Our route is covered by large, comfortable ferries, whose aim is to leave on time. Peak periods can be hectic. Week-enders who bring much needed tourist revenue to the Coast (e.g. the recent Festival of the Written Arts) necessitate extra sailings and extra crews.

However, as difficult as it can be, we locals have to adjust our time of travel.

Do we ever consider what might be the outcome if the operation was taken over by a private company? It would probably result in a substantial increase in fares and possibly fewer sailings.

Our ferry system is not perfect, but it doesn’t deserve all the criticism thrown at it.
