Spend airport money wisely

Editor: The airport issue continues to take up time and resources. Some improvements for local and recreational flyers would be very nice but the cry to spend $12 million or more (most likely) to have a fully scheduled wheel service is silly.

Some improvements for local and recreational flyers would be very nice but the cry to spend $12 million or more (most likely) to have a fully scheduled wheel service is silly. Sechelt is just one of those places that don’t need and would not benefit greatly and has technical problems as well.

We have seaplane service and the ferry. Where would the big deal scheduled service take you — a 10-minute hop to Vancouver International on a small commuter plane with limited capabilities?

The most recent argument seems to be that without a super airport no place can develop. If we stick to tourism and development as a retirement destination there is loads of potential for business. Yes, business can flourish this way! There is a perfectly good example not far away.

Let’s spend any money on needed services and maybe even reduced property taxes.

And this letter is from someone who made his living in the aviation business for over 45 years.
