On Tuesday, July 15, I attended the Gibsons council meeting where I witnessed the most outra-geous behaviour by two members of the gallery.

The first speaker launched into a vicious verbal attack on a member of the town staff. It was so inappropriate it left many members of the gallery stunned. Despite having his microphone shut off, he continued the tirade using a very loud voice.

The next speaker began to shout at the mayor, followed by intimidating language and shaking of his clenched fist. The scene concluded when this speaker walked out of the room. Again disbelief on the faces of many in the gallery.

It is time for this type of display to stop. No one should use our democratic system to speak to fellow citizens in such a derogatory manner. At no time should innuendo or incorrect facts be used to try to damage someone’s reputation.

It’s time for us to show our support for town council, its bylaws and procedures. Let’s get back on track and show our respect for the democratic process.
