Proposed changes look good

LETTERS

Editor:

I was pleased to see that our new Gibsons council got off to a good start in 2015 with proposed new procedures to run council meetings.

It was time to review how meetings are conducted.

To inquire means to ask a question. Look it up in the dictionary if you doubt my concerns. I personally was at several council meetings where a group of individuals misused this section of the agenda. Meeting after meeting they stood up and asked the same questions (already answered) usually about items not on the agenda for that meeting, or used the time to make comments that showed little or no respect for council or Town staff.

They also decided that this section should be used to express political views.

Other positive aspects of the proposed bylaw are a limitation on speaking time and requiring questions to pertain to council’s agenda.

The purpose of council and committee meetings is to conduct the Town’s business, and these changes will ensure that council will be able to do this efficiently.

Well done, council and staff. I wish you every success in 2015.
