Praise for BC Ferries

Letters

Editor:

It wears pretty thin to hear the constant complaining about our BC Ferries service. We have it very good!

I marvel at how the crews can maintain their top-notch, courteous attitude, knowing that there are so many that choose to find fault.

Hats off to the always welcoming staff at the terminals, the efficient deck crews, the proficient kitchen crew, the very accommodating galley servers, and the super-friendly cashiers. The crew members who keep the dining area and passenger deck areas spotless also should be applauded, and if we should ever need assistance or direction, the stewards office is always there and helpful. Many last-minute gifts have been purchased in the gift shop. High praise to the engineering crew – well done.

From the captain down, the professionalism is outstanding. I know that every crew member is trained and tested at the highest level and I always feel confident that if ever there was a serious issue, we all would be in good hands.

A friend who was visiting once commented that he was amazed at the scope and efficiency of the whole operation. He was a high-ranking civil servant.

As for the schedule and the fares, I agree with the comment I heard from my neighbour recently. “Reduce the sailings and increase the fares. It will keep even more riff-raff away.”

Be careful of what you wish for. We meet our neighbours and make friends onboard during our 40-minute crossing, while we enjoy the beautiful coastal B.C. scenery; don’t expect that with a fixed link.

We live in paradise, a beautiful place that most of us chose. Smell the roses. Life is pretty great if all you have to complain about is the ferry – just saying. If it’s so bad, so inconvenient and so unaffordable, move to the other side and get a taste of the real world.

If it wasn’t for the Langdale ferry, the rest of the world would be cut off from civilization! We are served by Queens.
