No need to change speed limits

Rethink speed limits down to 30 km? Sure. Just thought about it. And it makes no sense. In fact, the question annoys me, as I’m sure it does most Coasters.

Paul Martiquet’s “Health Matters” column (Coast Reporter, Aug. 15) asked if the subject was worth discussing. Based on his arguments, I don’t think so.

Martiquet suggests that 50 km is a dangerous and noisy state of affairs. Ludicrous. And the notion that a 30 km limit would encourage people to walk more is even more absurd.

I suggest that a 30 km limit would require most drivers to learn to drive all over again. I fall asleep at 30 km, or forget where I’m going. Cars would never get out of second gear. My Rolls Royce would boil over. I foresee more accidents, tow trucks and emergency vehicles screaming into once-quiet neighbourhoods to deal with all the problems that 30 km would create.

So there — I see your absurd and raise you double. Let’s hear no more of this again.
