No need to be stranded

In response to the letter from Terry Turner, Coast Reporter, July 11.

There is no need for anyone from the Coast to be “stranded” after being discharged from any hospital in Vancouver.

There is a company called SN Transport (aka “hospital transfer”) that will take you from one hospital to another or to your door at home.

I checked out their website before my recent surgery at Vancouver General Hospital, then talked to them, consequently getting a referral from a doctor or nurse to the social worker on my floor at the hospital, who paid me a visit and advised me “no problem, we will get you home.”

From VGH to my front door in West Sechelt cost me $80 — money well spent, I’d say. Too bad they don’t advertise up here so more people know about it.

Also, if you are stuck, like I was, in Vancouver for pre-op appointments on a long weekend Friday afternoon, just give BC Ferries a call ahead of time (not the reservation line, and ask nicely). Tell them your predicament (all the reserves were sold) and they gave me an “assured boarding pass” with a confirmation number, and along with your TAP form, you can get on whatever ferry you need.

It obviously needs to be for medical purposes, and you need to be at the ferry check-in at least a half hour before. It was a huge relief for us on June 27.

Hope this helps a few people.
