We should be more helpful to the ambulance drivers.

On Jan. 20 I attended the talk given by Isobel Mackenzie, BC Seniors Advocate, in the Sechelt Indian Band Hall, which is behind McDonald’s Restaurant.

I was sorry to hear that one of the attendees was unwell and had collapsed. A telephone call was made to 9-1-1 to summon an ambulance, and a street number was requested. A difficult question in Sechelt. Are we aware of the numbers for the mall, churches, restaurants, thrift shops, etc.?

As I walked away from the hall I was surprised to see the ambulance speeding away towards the Raven’s Cry Theatre, before it turned back towards the hall.

The 9-1-1- call centres are in Vancouver, Vancouver Island or even in Kamloops. Land-line phones rather than cell phones will pick up GPS.

The ambulance drivers in Sechelt could be seconded from Vancouver or Burnaby, another reason why we should be aware of those numbers.
