More bike lane maintenance needed

LETTERS

Editor:

I think it is easy to speak for the mainstream cyclists on the Coast when I say that more bike lanes are a good thing for both transportation and a healthier lifestyle.  But you don’t have to go far to see our bike lanes covered in dirt and debris from vehicle traffic and there seems no intention to keep them clear. This lack of maintenance means that riding in these lanes is often more hazardous than riding in the vehicle lane.

So keep up the good work expanding bike lanes, but let’s hope the powers-that-be send the sweepers up and down those lanes a few times a year to ensure they are both usable and safe.
