Medical marijuana: an idea whose time has come?

As we approach the municipal election, there is a propensity for exaggeration. George Goudie’s letter illuminates such skill.

Medical marijuana might well be an idea whose time has come.  It is at least worthy of a serious business and honest social reconsideration. The states of Colorado and Washington are experiencing initial positive economic results consistent with forecasts. Goudie’s simplistic argument favours a continuation of the old failed policies. His argument unwittingly, or perhaps wittingly, benefits the established criminal business class. The out-of-control marijuana prohibition policy costs are unsustainable. Municipal, provincial and federal coffers are obviously over-stretched. This demands a paradigm shift in priorities.

Goudie’s concern for the airport expansion might also be alleviated if he informed himself of the actual proposed cost, closer to half his exaggerated figure.
