Look at the issues instead of attacks

Amidst the campaign rhetoric and the downright mean-spirited antics of certain people, it would be nice to look at actual issues instead of attacking personalities.

What upsets me most is that no one is talking about some of the brilliant things this council and staff have done for Sechelt. They refunded 10 years of sewer fees, for one, because it was the right thing to do!

But the best thing they have done, and it’s getting lost in the shuffle of extreme NIMBY-ism, is the financing for Sechelt’s Water Resource Centre. It’s a thing of beauty. And if you’re thinking, ‘to an accountant, maybe’, you’d be wrong.  We will all benefit from this amazing project and yet we’re paying no more taxes and Sechelt still has $20 million in reserves.

This council built the treatment plant with no cost to the taxpayer. Funding has come from the federal and provincial governments, the Canadian Federation of Municipalities, and the sewer user fees that we have all paid and which must be used only for sewer costs.

We have a group of people in city hall who know what they’re doing. They’re doing it with honesty and hard work, and they haven’t been appreciated enough.
