Legion thanks all for opinions

I would like to thank Bruce Kiloh for sharing his recent letter to the editor regarding the Goldenhawk, albeit a bit short-sighted. After all, it could be argued, this was one of the privileges and rights our veterans were fighting for.

I would also like to thank Randy Pierce for the contributions he and his team made to the Poppy Fund and for bringing more attention to the Legion and Sechelt branch No. 140. I was impressed by the civilized and professional manner he used to express his opinion in his letter to the editor in the Dec. 5 edition, unlike my own first draft, that was less kind and considerate.

I’d also like to thank Gaylene Coutts from St. Anne, Man., for keeping the name and the plight of the Legion in the news, as Branch No. 140 needs every inch of ink and every dollar to continue serving its veterans and its community, let alone helping the Legion educate the community as to how they can really assist the Branch.

Finally, for the record, the idea of bringing the Goldenhawk (relation to RCAF Goldenhawks) to the Legion on Remembrance Day was unanimously approved, after little historical analysis (common sense, yes) during a monthly meeting that included several veterans from the Second World War.

I hope that Mr. Kiloh can find it in his heart to forgive all those veterans, Legion members, RCMP and countless caring citizens who came to the Branch after paying their respects during the official ceremony to enjoy a couple of cold ones in honour of their fallen comrades.
