Keep calm on Slower Road

I noted, with some amusement, the only kick in the Nov. 14 Coast Reporter Kisses & Kicks section: “Kicks to the drivers through Roberts Creek who, at 50 to 60 kph lead a half-mile long parade of increasingly irate traffic.” Amused, because I’m one who does so. In fact, militantly does so.

The speed limit is 50 regardless of whether you’re a contractor, have a brand new SUV, have just moved here from the city, are late for an appointment or are simply genetically impatient.

People walk on Lower Road, jog beside it, push babies across it, have the deepest of conversations, alone or in company — in short, live on it or near it, and wish to continue to do so quietly and safely.

I drive between 50 and 60 on Lower, but if I see someone coming out of nowhere at 80 or more suddenly behind me, kissing my licence plate with their bumper, I like to keep it at 51.

Use the highway to fulfill your power fantasies, fellow human beings, but keep it calm and cool on Slower Road. Thanks.
