It’s time for a bridge

Instead of wasting our time on get-rich-quick schemes that only benefit the one per cent, like the George and a new airport, we need to focus on what would bring real growth and prosperity to all residents on the Sunshine Coast.

It’s time for a bridge.

The ferry system is unsustainable and unaffordable and so is life on the Coast. The hardship is only magnified every time there’s an economic recession.

For four years running the population has declined for obvious reasons. I need to leave the Coast too if I’m going to continue to support myself and plan for retirement, but real estate sales here are the worst in two decades. I can’t sell my property. I know that I’m not the only one in this position.

In September Transportation Minister Todd Stone addressed a business gathering in Sechelt. He noted that his Ministry is vigorously pursuing the concept of fixed links and has announced a feasibility study into a bridge. We need to keep this conversation going. It’s time to move forward towards progress and growth instead of isolation and poverty. We need a life-line to and from this rock! It’s time and it’s long overdue.
