Human nature

LETTERS

Editor:

The variety of human temperaments never ceases to fascinate me.

Why are some people so introverted that they would prefer never to see their names appear in public, while others never see a camera lens that they don’t try to dominate or a local issue they don’t feel requires their magniloquent opinion to be published in both local papers?

We on the Coast are not immune to such want-to-be thought leaders, whether commenting on fossil fuels with such unbelievable assertions as a four-foot rise in sea levels in 50 years, increases in ferry fares, farm gate food, GMOs, the advantages of naturopathy or the dangers of vaccines. Yes, their letters do fill space, but are these the issues that really matter?

How about more focus on issues that do matter like the need for jobs for our young people, how to decide on a career while still in high school and how to get the post-secondary education those jobs require? Those are the opinion leaders whose letters should occupy our papers.
