How about a second highway?

Before we start looking at a road link from the Sea to Sky Highway to the Sunshine Coast, I believe we should have a hard look at the highway conditions and capacity currently available on the Coast.

Apart from the cut, up from Langdale terminal, that would be Highway 101. Highway 101 carries all Sunshine Coast residents and tourists between Gibsons and  Sechelt and on up the Coast. Other users include logging trucks, tanker trucks, building material trucks, grocery trucks, bicycles and joggers. The resulting volume of traffic results in cars waiting to get out of their driveway, in one piece, and cars backed up at intersections with Highway 101.

Highway 101 is also the key means for ambulance and fire vehicles to use in an emergency.

It’s time we copied what they did on Vancouver Island with the construction of the main Island Highway, leaving the old highway to service local residents.
