How is it that the provincial government can come up with $250,000 for a fixed link study, but has never offered a similar study for advocates of lower ferry costs within the ferry system, like de-privatizing the present ferry system and reverting back to a Crown corporation? Without this latter option being analyzed as well, the commissioned study’s scope is wastefully limited and smacks of political bias. Transportation Minister Todd Stone says that “present conditions are an impediment to trade and tourism in the area.” This comment indicates a prejudiced mindset already. Let’s see how much public consultation there will really be.
