It is unfortunate that there is a complete lack of compromise on The George.
There is considerable finger pointing, name calling, and vehemence over this, but not a shred of flexibility. With everyone's blood pressure on the rise, you would think there would be an attempt at reaching a reasonable proposal that citizens can stomach.
We recently travelled to Maui where tourism is on steroids, and in areas where hotels have locked in much of the waterfront, we still only counted six to eight floors max for the largest complexes. The most beautiful area, though, was where they limited the height to two storeys and kept development back from the waterfront.
With so many of the community voicing concern over the scale of this proposal, I am amazed that there has been no attempt to mediate the divisiveness; rather, it has been the opposite by exacerbating the polarity with the simplistic tactics of name calling and dismissiveness.
Community is about working together to establish positive infrastructure. This is not a yay or nay issue, this is about finding a reasonable compromise.
