Essence of Gibsons

Letters

Editor:

Canada Day in Winegarden Park, Gibsons – a brilliant sunny day, wonderful views over the water to the mountain peaks beyond, little boats bustling to and fro, toddlers throwing pebbles into the water from the safety of a wall, the sounds of the pipes and drums followed by music from local artists round the clamshell stage. How lucky we are. But, how sad to contemplate that much of this may change with the “redesign” of the park: obstructed views with the raised stage moved to centre view, no wall but a “natural” shoreline cluttered by logs and debris, and much else. Surely the above scenario symbolizes much of the essence of Gibsons? So council, while recognizing that change is inevitable, please consider that if you take the peppermint essence out of the candy, it leaves a pretty bland product, a mere shadow of its original.

S.M. Armstrong, Gibsons
