I share Jef Keighley’s concerns (Coast Reporter letters, July 11) that our new ferries are not going to be built in B.C.

Another troubling aspect of this situation is that the three new ferries will be designed to run on liquefied natural gas. This is touted as being cheaper than diesel, the fuel currently used.

What isn’t mentioned is that LNG is far more volatile than diesel or even gasoline.

For several years now I have felt offended by the signs along the foot passenger approach to the ferry informing us that, by boarding, we have given our consent to be searched at any time.

B.C. Ferries wants us to know that terrorism is always on their minds and that we’re all suspect. Why, then, would they be creating new ferries that are potential floating bombs?
