Another disappointing service moment

Sadly I have another negative story about BC Ferries to add to the many submitted to the paper. Our story began on June 21, a day to celebrate Father’s Day and attend FIFA soccer in Vancouver. We thought walking on would be a great option, but we arrived to find no parking in the long-term area and no accommodations made by BC Ferries to help out their many customers. The result was that we ended up parking on the highway and running fast to catch the ferry.

Once on the ferry we went to speak to the chief steward to see if BC Ferries would help us out. We told them about the situation and they explained they would not be able to help by calling the RCMP or towing company to make sure we were not towed. They didn’t have any explanation or solution to the parking problem. It was another disappointing service moment, and when we arrived back to the Coast on a late ferry at 11:40 p.m. our car was gone. We had to pay over $140 to get our car back and get a ride home with someone at that late hour.

We have to tolerate late ferries, yet BC Ferries is not able to accommodate people when they are in need. They follow their policies and show no compassion for the people who depend on them. We don’t have a choice – we don’t have a highway or other ferry service to help us reach our destinations, so I guess they can be rude and uncaring. Sad news! I think it may be time to build a highway because I am sure tired of hearing or experiencing another bad-news story about BC Ferries.
