Concerning school board chair Betty Baxter’s letter, “The good news side of the story” (Coast Reporter, Oct. 10), no one is debating the quality of our elementary school. It is a stunningly beautiful building, intelligent in its design and organization of space, and community inclusive.

The fundamental issue is the lack of timely and accurate communication to the parents relative to what stage the school building project is at and an actual end date for completion.

After the target date of April was not met, completion for the end of August became the goal. Thus, it was a confusing moment for this parent and others to receive an email communication from the school on Sept. 20, indicating “we are just about there with a beautiful, brand new school!” when all that was working upon arrival on Sept. 23 were the classrooms, Wi-Fi networks and the washrooms.  And this is still the case today.

So, when can we expect an onsite administrative office, a working gym, resource rooms for SETAs and support teachers, a fully functioning library, music room, resumption of the hot-lunch program, and after school care at the school? If that can be accomplished “in a few short weeks,” truly we shall have cause to celebrate.
