A sad and disturbing response

Editor: How very sad, if not somewhat disturbing, when one's voiced opinion on something generates the worst kind of hate mail, that which is unsigned.

I am referring to a letter pertaining to the wastewater treatment plantpostmarked from Sicamous that someone we know received in the mail this week.

Not only was it negative to that individual, but it also identified my husband by name and us as a couple. It's not nice to be referred to as being "duplicitous and disingenuous" (directed at Geoff) and it's very not nice to be warned to "be careful what you argue and portray as fact" and advised that if you become "complicit in this farce, next you will witness the powers that be" and so forth and so on - this directed at the recipient of the letter.

Anonymous castigation is the worst form of cowardice. If you believe in what you are saying then put your name to it. We may not agree with things that Jef Keighley, Bob Evermon or Betty Ann Pap say, but we commend them for not being afraid to sign their names to letters or, in Betty Ann's case, get up and speak her mind in public.

Some people seem to be losing sight of the fact that we all want the same thing - for Sechelt to survive and thrive in the process. Mayor Henderson and council are tax-paying citizens too. If this whole thing is a failure, they go down with the ship as well. Sounds pretty motivating to me!

We believe that all the negativity is doing far more harm to the financial well-being of Sechelt than any $22 million wastewater treatment plant ever could. We just hope that the naysayers figure it out before more damage is done to Sechelt's image.
