The following was sent to the speaker of the Legislature, Agricultural Minister Pat Pimm and Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons

Your muzzling of our MLA Nicholas Simons, forcing him to withdraw his accurate comment after he called the government’s proposed changes to the agricultural land reserve “deceitful”, disturbs me.

Deceit by definition is “An action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth.”

From where I sit, this describes our government, at most levels, perfectly.

Is not a vibrant democratic government one where people can speak the truth?

Mr. Simons should be commended for telling it like it is.

What is disturbing is the immature inability of politicians to swallow the bitter pill that they are not kings and queens, but rather hired by us, the public, to promote the voice of the people. By muzzling Mr. Simons you have now muzzled us, once again, and pay lip service to “serving democracy,” which has become a grand sham.

This is not a sign of a healthy democracy, the veneer of which is very thin indeed.
