FREDERICTON - Premier David Alward says he has no plans to deregulate gas prices in New Brunswick.

Alward says it's interesting that Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil is considering the idea, but he believes drivers in his province have benefited since the introduction of regulated gas prices eight years ago.

McNeil said last week that his government could deregulate gas prices as early as the fall but added he is not working under any deadline.

The cost of gas and diesel was regulated in the two provinces on July 1, 2006, with the intent of stabilizing but not necessarily preventing price hikes at the pumps.
